February 2012 Mama's Got a New Bag Contest

Posted by: bunnyfufu

February is the month for love, and I keep thinking about childhood crushes. My hubby tells the silliest stories about crushes he had as a kid. About Laura Holcomb and how all the boys in the second grade were in love with her because of her perfect bangs, or how in junior high he and three of his good friends threw Sally Robison into the irrigation ditch at lunchtime, to get her attention. Ah, that was true love! (Don't worry if this sounds like something your kid would do, those four reprobates grew into fine upstanding citizens.)

To win this months bag, tell us about childhood crushes.  One that you had or that someone had on you! Can't think of one? I bet you have a story to tell about your kid! Post a comment below to enter. As always, Montana Parent promises to never share, sell or spam your email.

$25 gift certificate

www.chatelainechocolate.com Bozeman, MT

La Chatelaine Chocolat is a dainty little chocolate shop inspired by the chocolateries of Paris.
The owners - one from Paris - moved to the rugged rocky Mountains and eventually found their
calling to handcraft chocolate. In 2006, the two handcrafted a small line of chocolates from their undersized kitchen. These chocolates weren't ordinary since they contained premium ingredients such as Camargue fleur de sel, organic cream, local free-range eggs, and European chocolate.

While chocolates are the signature line of La Chatelaine, many new products have since debuted, such as American-style cakes, petite tartlets, toffees, European cookies, caramels,  sauces, and

French Macarons. The two owners have received culinary training in Paris and San Francisco; yet maintain their originality and emphasis on artistic yet sumptuous confections.
Please visit our 2 location to taste our many delectable's at 1516 West Main St. or The Baxter

A story my mom loves to tell...When I was about three years old I developed my first 'crush'. A family friend had a little boy who was five, I used to follow him around like a lost puppy. My mom recorded my adventures with him in my baby book, all the details of my kiddie crush such sloppy kisses goodbye.

Well, a few years later my mother and my crushes father fell in love and got married. Now, immortalized in my baby book, so that we never will forget, are all the details of this crush on my soon to be step brother. Luckily, this is a crush I outgrew! smilies/smiley.gif

Every time I pull out my baby book I giggle about it!

When I was in preschool (!!), I used to come home and tell my mom that I liked Nathan O. And that I was going to marry him. Apparently, I even tried to give the boy a kiss! The funny thing is, even though we went to different elementary schools, Nathan and I ended up at the same high school, where we dated. I did not end up marrying him, but I did eventually get that kiss!

Ahhh - my childhood crush - Matthew Cummings. He lived a couple of miles down the road from me (in rural Maine), and what started out as innocent play dates bloomed into first-grade "love". I remember doing art projects at his house with his Mom, and can still picture the layout of his house. I remember getting my first detention for "going out of bounds" in the schoolyard with him. We didn't GO anywhere - just a few feet outside the boundary marker to prove how cool we were. Then there was the beautiful May basket placed on my doorstep. May baskets - how sad they are a dying (or perhaps even dead?) tradition, because it was the most magical surprise I had ever received, it being so unexpected. When people ask me about my first love, I tell them about Matthew, and not a High School boyfriend, or college love, but my first grade sweetheart.

My first love & kiss was with the next door boy. Oh the love as a 5 year old is so innocent! I will always remember kissing Craig at the end of our driveway, if not only in my memories but also by my brother's recollecting. smilies/smiley.gif

Well, this crush did not have a very happy ending. A little boy in the 3rd grade was infatuated with me. One day on the playground he wanted to get my attention. Instead of just making weird faces at me or something he decided to run and jump over my head...(I was sitting on the ground). His flying leap didn't quite clear my noggin', and instead sent me flying when his foot punted the base of my skull. Not long afterward my vision blurred, I vomited and was soon hospitalized for a severe concussion. His parents made him bring me flowers while I was still in the hospital. Fast forward 20 years...I ran into Brian while attending a graduation party in a different town. Strangely, I still recognized him. When I introduced myself to him and jokingly referred to him as the kid who nearly killed me-he fled the party. I guess he was more traumatized by the event then I. Poor kid.

I had a crush on the boy who lived across the field from my grandparents. I even scrawled "I lov Ty" in cherry chapstick on the bottom of my little wooden chair. I used to trudge through the alfalfa, so I could knock on the door and ask if he could play!

When I was about four I had a crush on a boy so my mom, savvy to my situation, set up a play date for us. She offered to make us any food I picked so I asked for my favorite food, mac & cheese. Like many children in the late 70s I envisioned the 'blue box' (Kraft). My mom had another idea. She set out to create a really special date for us, complete with homemade macaroni & cheese. As my mom tells it, we were having a great play date until mom pulled out her creation. I threw a temper tantrum. Where was my beloved 'blue box'? I guess then I realized who my true crush was.

A childhood crush! In my profession, teaching, I have witnessed many a childhood crush. It seems each year there is a new "couple". This year there is a little boy who is in my class and his crush is in the other class. This boy can NOT wait to get outside to the playground to see her. Each day in class he works at the art table to create something for her and nearly every day he has brought some type of art project from home for her. smilies/smiley.gif He is also very cute about introducing this little girl to ALL of his family members as they come to pick him up at the end of the day. The best was the day his little sister came to pick up and was screaming accross the parking lot, "which girl is _____"! It was so funny the little boys face turned bright red and then he proudly pointed out his crush! Children are so fun to watch in thier childhood innocence!smilies/cheesy.gif

Someone left a valentine for me on my front steps when I was in first grade. It had directions to for me to go to and meet who gove it to me. No one showed up and now that I think about it I should ask my sister if she did it to prank mesmilies/grin.gif

My first grader wore black tops for a week. By Wednesday of that week, I asked why he was wearing black so much. He told me (after much coaxing) that two of the girls in his class told him he looks really nice in black. I think he really wanted to hang out with those girls,

Okay, I'll share a childhood crush that should be good for some laughs. I had a HUGE thing for David Hasselhoff after watching 'Knight Rider'. I even had a poster of him on my wall and yes, I kissed it all the time!

He was my absolute dream weaver, tan skin, blue eyes, light brown hair, and so funny! It was the best summer ever, except i don't think he even knew I existed smilies/wink.gif

My son is the most girl crazy child I have ever seen! He constantly says how much he loves girls, how pretty they are and his list for his birthday party is all girls. He also claims to love certain girls in his class and is going to marry one in particular. He is such a sweetheart, I am sure someday his heart will be trampled upon. Poor boy.

One of my childhood crushes was a boy named Bill. He was 7 years older than me and I thought he was cutest boy on the playground. I wrote him a love note and had a boy in my class deliver it to him during noon lunch recess. I was SO nervous! Needless to say, it did not go well and I was the laughing stock of the playground (due to my cousin being his friend).

My first crush was a little boy named Ryan when I was 4 years old. Our parents were teachers together in a small town in eastern Montana. I think he was mostly the first boy my own age but I thought he was so cute and so nice. We have pictures together playing outside, doing play dough, and at each other's birthday parties. I remember being sad at his going away party right before I started kindergarten. I still have a Christmas ornament he gave me and hang it on my tree every year.

As a funny side note, my mom and his dad ended up dating a couple years ago. We got a chuckle out of it as adult children after a childhood crush watching our parents date. smilies/grin.gif

My childhood crush started in 3rd grade. I wanted to be his square dancing partner soooo bad I brought him a stuffed animal and asked him if he would be my partner. He said yes and I don't even remember the dance because I was so nervous. My crush continued through high school. We kissed in a hot tub when we were teenagers....Such a great guy we just came from to different worlds. We both realized it would never work. I still think about him from time to timesmilies/smiley.gif

Using the very unscientific method of writing everyone's name on a slip of paper and having my son pick one out of a bowl, we have a winner. Happy leap day everyone! I can hardly tell you how much we've enjoyed the comments on this contest. My face hurts from giggling so much.

and the winner is. . .
