I hate my jogging stroller.

Maybe the word hate is too strong and it's possible that the stroller really isn't to blame here.
Last night was my 4th outing to train for the Sweet Pea 5k. Second time to meet with Run Bozeman at Bozeman Running Company. First time to try running while pushing a 3 year old. Eye-opening. Here's my route. It is precisely 2 miles.

Here are three tips that will help you have a more pleasant run.
- Wearing the right clothes will help you by not being distracting and uncomfortable. So even if the last time you wore spandex was in the '80s for fashion purposes, swallow your pride and put on some tight fitting pants.
- I don't care that leftovers aren't as good as hot out of the oven food, and yes, you rock you over-achieving domestic goddess but, I cannot stress this enough do not eat that plate of roasted chicken and potatoes a half an hour before your run.
- When you run into a stumbling block. . . go get some smarter people in the room.
I really need some tips on how to run better with my stroller. I can see that this training is going to become my alone time but sometimes I want a kiddo with me. She LOVED it. But, it was significantly more difficult to run with a jogger stroller. I felt like I couldn't get my breath because my arms weren't moving much - of course, the chicken dinner wasn't helping me either.
And of course, the most important thing about doing anything in life - find the good, embrace the fun, and simply show up. That is all anyone really needs to do. Run Bozeman is meeting again on Saturday morning at 8am at the Bozeman Running Company. We'll be posting info on Facebook and here, and if you comment that you'd like to train with us - keep your eyes peeled. I am working on a weekly check in post for Mondays, where you can share your progress in the comments section.

"I was stupidly pushing with both hands until a friend suggested only one arm on the jogger while the other does your normal "pumping." This has helped TONS! I found one arm always feels more natural than the other, but I try to switch it off. Offset your hand from the center so you're running behind the wheel, rather than the center of the stroller."

Run Like a Mother: The Book
"We give a bunch of stroller tips in our new book. One is definitely only push with one arm, while swinging the other, as Rebecca suggests. On flat, paved, safe surfaces--like a rail-to-trail path--some women feel comfortable wearing... the stroller leash, pushing the stroller in front, letting it go, then "catching up" with it and giving it a good push again. But we don't recommend that on a sidewalk or in traffic (obviously!)."
I am going to read the "Run Like a Mother" books and share more in later posts! See what I mean about getting smarter people in the room?

1. Expect Less
Remember you are working hard and you are pussing a load, the workout is more difficult.
2. Find other stroller buddies.
Misery loves company
Not really. On longer runs though other kids at the same level can be nice for the little ones as they get bored. 3. Down hill is always easier.
As always, when running with or w/o a stroller remember to engage your abdominal muscles, think about having a flat pelvis and sinking into your pockets as you run.

It is getting better and I am listening to all of you advice. It has really lifted my spirits to have y'all there. The Run Bozeman group is awesome and they have been super friendly and encouraging when I started all by my lonesome, but it is a world of difference to have other people in the same boat as me!
Really looking forward to this weeks run! I've been out one other time this week by myself and hope to get out again on Monday. If anyone is into meeting up later in the day or early evening for a stroller friendly run, I am too. We could do the same route we did on Wednesday.
Now that I am thinking as I write, Monday morning, I'll post that map and an invitation to run it again.
